REMEMBER

The New Jersey Firearms Identification (FID) card,  only allows you to purchase rifles and shotguns. You will need to apply for a pistol permit to purchase a handgun. It will most likely take over a week to be approved, I have seen up to 4 weeks.

A pistol permit cost $25.00 EACH on top of the FARS Service fee. Per state law you can only purchase one (1) handgun in a 30-day period. Permits expire after 90 days, but can be renewed for another 90 day period prior to the initial expiration of said permit.

--

lets break this down:

Initial FID associated costs - $126.00 ($151.00 if you add handgun permit)

  • $18.00 - state service fee
  • $50 initial license fee
  • $58.00 fingerprinting
  • 30 - 60 day wait

Application for handgun only - $45.00 (add 25 for every additional permit)

  • $18.00 Sate Service fee
  • $25.00 permit fee
  • 10-30 days wait times.
  • Permit is only good for a maximum of 180 days (It will expire in 90 days if not renewed, it is rare but it is possible).

*If you are reading this and suspect you are being scammed by the NJ government, your concerns are valid. Pricing individuals out of their fundamental right to gun ownership is both unethical and unlawful. Please keep this in mind when casting your vote. Remember, the government is accountable to the people, not the other way around.*
